Post 14: Google Certification

Switched horses a bit — now putting energy into becoming a Google Certified Educator Level 1

To this end I attended a Level 1-Google Certified Educator Bootcamp at the Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative put on by Google Trainer Joe McClung. The day was well worth the time.

Joe’s Slides presentation gives a great overview of pertinent information that enable educators to acquire and enhance the skills necessary to pass the exam. I do not have any video of Joe’s giving us the lowdown that day on what all we need to do and look out for, but here is a short YouTube video of a fellow who recently took the Level 1 exam.

The Google for Education Teacher Center is a good place to start. Actually, though, Joe McClung’s Level 1 Boot Camp is the 1st good place, then to Google for Education Teacher Center.

I plan to take the Level 1 exam in a week or so. I just put my money where my mouth was:

I should get an email from Google in a day or so advising me of what to do next.

Oh! My! Goodness!

Screenshot below a little bit of good news — certainly pointing in the right direction!

Another screenshot pointing in the right direction:

Here we go

And off we went, and the going was good until I hit a few Qs on using Google Sheets which were a bit of a devilment for me, as were a Q or 2 on Calendars. Slowed down even more by difficulty copying and pasting

as the above screenshot shows the response I often got when I attempted to copy and paste. Still not sure what was happening — I installed the extension I thought and still it would not work. I suspect it may have had to do with my using an iMac — anyway, it sure  slowed me down –> And then

Suddenly! the 3 hours were UP! I was NOT home free and Alas & Alack & woe is me!  I did not pass — but all is not lost, eh? — Grover? S0 back to the drawing board and focussing on Sheets, Calendars, and copying and pasting. Will take it again in a couple of weeks and expect to know what I am doing a bit better than the first go around.

On my drawing board is this and this and this and this and a bunch of practice. One problem I have is not currently having access to G Suite.

Took it the 1st time on July 1 and cannot register to take it again till 14 days later — frustrating. Today is July 11 and just noticed Trainer (not Trader) Joe is putting on another Level 1 workshop at the Co-op on July 23 — por lo tanto I will take this workshop again and register for my 2nd go at the Level 1 Exam and put my window to take it to begin from the evening of the 23rd.

Gang aft agley My goodness but did my plans go awry or what? Yes YES they did -- when they say "Make sure
you have a full 3 hours" you best MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 3 HOURS. For various and sundry reasons my schedule
was derailed but I thought I could still squeeze in the exam. Ha! Joke is entirely on me.

The test is not rocket science but if you get in a time crunch you are up that creek and you have no
paddle! I am mad angry discombobulated embarrassed chagrined and downright beside myself.

eh, little beastie?
