Post 17: Two I2’s

–> Went to it again! Springdale’s workshop on infusing learning with technology

It was as good or better than last year’s! About the only complaint is that there is too much to choose from — no way to attend all you are of a mind to! Another fun 2 days! (This was the District’s 5th I2.)

My I2 2019 schedule

Last summer I wrote –> “The 2018 Innovation Institute is June 6 & 7. Now in it’s 4th year, this gathering of educators explores the potential of educational technology and best practices in education.”  is really something you should consider for next year — The Institute is in its 4th year! it has been around for 4 years and I just learned about it last week! Lucky me! #1 and#2 Where Have I Been?

It just finished and I am quite glad I went. One of the best 2 days of what’s called professional development that I have been to. Well organized and well run and each day began with an excellent Keynote speaker.

George Couros — his keynote not available to post for you, but a good sampling is here and here and a couple of quotes: “Always err on the side of positive – you never know the impact you will have on other people so always make it a good one!” “You need to make the positives so loud that the negatives are impossible to hear.” Also trenchant is when he derides our penchant for tailoring a lot of decisions to appease negative-thinking people so that they will not whine.

Tyler Tarver — his keynote not available but good samplings are here, here, here, and here. And a couple of quotes — “it’s not about shoving every kid down the same hallway, it’s about opening up as many doors as possible, then letting them choose!” —  “Don’t be intimidated by the wave of technology, just grab a surfboard!”

Surfboard indeed!

I was able to get a photo with Tyler — a very personable ton-of-energy excellent educator, seemed to me.
Tyler has a million things going on, as does George Couros — each has a ton of  videos for you on YouTube.

Each Keynote followed by umpteen choices

— almost too many.

Look at these choices!

Each choice has a brief description linked-like-crazy to explain as much as possible. For example, Tyler’s presentation (He gave one in addition to his keynote.) Be a #Baller Educator has its description as follows:
Thursday, June 7 • 9:00am – 10:30am

 Be a #Baller Educator

Technology is changing the landscape of how, what, and why we teach and learn. Tyler’s experience in public, higher, and online learning helps give context and guidance on what that looks like to reach today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders. You’ll get tips and tricks on how to reach and influence Millennials (aka The Selfie Generation), and build a culture that fosters learning, builds rapport, and harnesses collaboration. Practical advice mixed with videos and experience, sprinkled with humor(ish), and a dab of The Dab. Utilizing positivity, creativity, and other words that end in -tivity to engage and focus on being authentic to your personality while in the classroom. What’s that smell? Oh, that’s fun, and you’re about to sniff it up!

It was a fun 2 days.

All the presentations I attended were great. I think you would be hard pressed to find an attendee who was not glad to have gone.

Cease and Desist

I have decided that I will desist from my look at VR — Joe McClung’s presentation — Beginner’s Guide to Virtual Reality — showed me I was in a bit over my head trying — without the resources — to explain something I need more experience with to explain. His Google Slides presentation gives a good overview of some of what a teacher can do with the appropriate resources.
Soon as I land my dream job I will see what the admin allows and what I can get away with and marshal all my energies to infusing learning with technology!

Bye – bye

Google’s URL shortener at https://goo.gl/ will go away soon –> “Starting March 30, 2018, we will be turning down support for goo.gl URL shortener.
